Higher Latitudes See Longer Ragweed Season One significant cause of seasonal allergies is plants from the genus Ambrosia, which includes several types of ragweed. A study of ragweed pollen data from 10 U.S. and Canadian sites shows the duration of the pollen season increased by up to 27 days since 1995 at latitudes above about 41°N. Papillion, Nebraska, at 41.15°N, has a season 11 days longer than in 1995, Minneapolis, Minnesota (45.00°N), has a season 16 days longer, and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (52.07°N), has a season 27 days longer. An estimated 10% or more of the U.S. population is sensitive to ragweed pollen, and by one estimate allergies cost the United States approximately $21 billion per year. Protests against New Asbestos Plant in India Construction on an asbestos manufacturing plant in the Indian state of Bihar has come to a halt after six months of student-led protests, according to news reports from the subcontinent. Several dozen countries now ban most or all forms of asbestos, and earlier this year, the Collegium Ramazzini reintroduced its call for a global ban on asbestos. An estimated 125 million people are exposed to asbestos in the workplace, and thousands of deaths and new diagnoses of asbestos-related disease are reported each year.

Generating the synthetic CT (sCT) and synthetic MR (sMR: sT1w/sT2w) images of the brain using atlas based method
Introduction: Radiation therapy planning (RTP) is one of the clinical applications in which both CT scan and MRI are used. MR and CT images are applied to determine the target volume and calculation of dose distribution, respectively. In addition, using two imaging modalities increases the department workload and cost. In this study, an algorithm was presented to create synthet...
متن کاملAn MRI-based atlas and database of the developing mouse brain
The advent of mammalian gene engineering and genetically modified mouse models has led to renewed interest in developing resources for referencing and quantitative analysis of mouse brain anatomy. In this study, we used diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) for quantitative characterization of anatomical phenotypes in the developing mouse brain. As an anatomical reference for neuroscience research usi...
متن کاملGenerating Synthetic Computed Tomography and Synthetic Magnetic Resonance (sMR: sT1w/sT2w) Images of the Brain Using Atlas-Based Method
Introduction: Nowadays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in combination with computed-tomography (CT) is increasingly being used in radiation therapy planning. MR and CT images are applied to determine the target volume and calculate dose distribution, respectively. Since the use of these two imaging modalities causes registration uncertainty and increases department w...
متن کاملComparison of state-of-the-art atlas-based bone segmentation approaches from brain MR images for MR-only radiation planning and PET/MR attenuation correction
Introduction: Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging has emerged as a valuable tool in radiation treatment (RT) planning as well as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging owing to its superior soft-tissue contrast. Due to the fact that there is no direct transformation from voxel intensity in MR images into electron density, itchr('39')s crucial to generate a pseudo-CT (Computed Tomography) image ...
متن کاملALLEN Developing Mouse Brain Atlas TECHNICAL WHITE PAPER: REFERENCE ATLASES FOR THE ALLEN DEVELOPING MOUSE BRAIN ATLAS
The Allen Developing Mouse Brain Atlas provides a cellular-resolution map of gene expression in the developing mouse brain from the embryo to the young adult. To provide a neuroanatomical framework for expression data, reference atlases for the Allen Developing Mouse Brain Atlas were created with the expertise of Professor Luis Puelles, M.D., Ph.D. (University of Murcia, Spain). Sagittal full-c...
